In the eighth installment of the CENTURY 21 Social Media How-To Video Series, we take a look at how to utilize Facebook’s new timeline layout to maximize your engagement with your Facebook community. Timeline is designed to put users’ experiences into chronological order. You can even add milestones to your timeline for 30, 40 or 50 years ago.
A few points about Facebook’s timeline layout:
Make the most of the cover photo – This large piece of visual real estate is something complete new to Facebook. You no longer have just your profile photo, you have a much bigger space to express yourself. Update this photo often, but be aware, Facebook does not allow cover photos to include price or purchase information, contact information of a call to action.
Get visual – The timeline layout lends itself to highly visual posts. Visitors to your timeline want quick, snack size bites of information when they scroll down your page. Keep your posts short and be sure to attach a compelling image.
Pin posts – Timeline introduces a new featured called “pinned posts” in which you can pin a status update to the top of your timeline for seven days. Save this for really important information you want to be sure your fans see.
Highlight posts – You can now highlight a post to make it extend across both columns of the Facebook timeline. After you publish your status update, press the star image above the post to extend it across the page. Save the highlighted posts for your most visually appealing content.
